1 - INTRODUCTION
Azathioprine is a thiopurine immunosuppressant, synthesized in 1959 from its parent drug 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP). Originally used in organ transplant patients, dermatologists have been using this drug for over 35 years for the treatment of many autoimmune and inflammatory skin diseases.
