Hyperpigmentation

16 April 2012, by GHISLAIN P.-D. & DELESCLUSE J.

Unsightly pigmentation disorders are a frequent motive for seeking medical advice. Dyschromia can have a major impact on psychological well-being and must therefore not be dismissed by the dermatologist. The demand for treatment is high, but the outcomes are inconsistent. In addition to over-the-counter topical treatments, the therapeutic arsenal now includes a number of dermatocosmetic procedures. Whether or not dermatologists actually use these methods, it is important for them to be aware of and understand them in order to be able to advise their patients appropriately.
